My parents are sometimes pretty cool. They went to a local pop-up farmer’s market and surprised me with some kale buds. I had never seen them before or cooked with them. I looked online for some guidance.
The first blog I clicked on suggested parboiling the kale and sautéing with garlic. I’m always down for greens and garlic. So, I decided it was a reasonable option.
I parboiled the kale buds until the purple stems started to turn paler/green. Then I transferred the kale to colander and rinsed under cold water. I sautéed with 5 cloves of garlic (I love garlic and more might have been nice). At the end I added red pepper flakes, freshly ground black pepper, and a bit of balsamic vinegar.
The kale was nice and tender and tasted really good. This was an adventure that worked on the first try!
